  • Amy McCready is wrong in suggesting that it's fine to let an 8-year-old win the coat disagreement. While a 6-year-old might be willing to wear a coat after a day of going without, an 8-year-old's refusal is more often connected with how her classmates perceive her.

  • The "Retro Glam" dress looked like Roger DeBris's "Chrysler Building" dress in "The Producers." It's a beautiful dress, but the design detail made it look like a white version of that over-the-top costume.

  • Is coffee any worse than caffeinated soft drinks? Probably not, although coffee has been linked to certain types of cancer. But teens, especially, and young adults, have growing bodies, and need to be encouraged to consume healthy food and drink.

  • Rudeness began in the 80s with the "me" era. If any media has contributed to our rudeness, it is television, but the reality is that rude people raise rude children, because politeness has to be valued to be taught. The internet reflects our rudeness; it didn't cause it.

  • Banning gays from serving in the military caters to the a homophobic minority and is rooted in archaic myths. Given the problems with rape by "straight" U.S. soldiers of civilians and fellow female officers, perhaps the military would do well to examine what, exactly, they are trying to prevent.
